Bank of North Dakota (BND), located in Bismarck, ND since 1919, is the only state-owned
bank in the nation. In 1967, BND made the first federally insured student loan in the nation.
BND continues to develop and enhance student loan programs to assist parents
and students finance a college education.
Listed below are two loan categories; those funded by the Federal government, and alternative loan programs offered by BND.
The Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) is funded by the Federal
government. Under the FFELP, there are five types of loans (listed below).
Many lending institutions nationwide work with the FFELP, therefore, you
select the lender you wish to use for a FFELP loan.
